PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Dear Friends and Colleagues:

It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your 2008 chapter president. Before I begin to tell you of the goals in 2008, I would first like to recognize and thank Tom Pyburn and the 2007 Board for their commitment and contributions to this chapter. HRMA’s success has been recognized for many years through our designation as a Superior Merit Chapter. This level of excellence does not come easily – it is because of the tireless work of many volunteers, the exemplary leadership of past boards, and the professionalism of our members that this chapter has attained this level of distinction.
          Our theme for 2008 is “Advancing the Profession, Serving the Professional”. We will accomplish this mission by providing professional development opportunities through our monthly meetings; facilitating opportunities for networking and sharing of ideas and experiences; focusing on legislative topics and issues; and continuing our commitment to community involvement. Your new board is already hard at work developing programs and initiatives in support of this mission. You may have noticed the legislative updates at our monthly meeting, the restarting of the UNO Student Chapter, promotion of HRMA events in the community, re-engaging member networking events, and the increase in the number of members who attend our monthly events. We’ve also started plans for the 2009 National SHRM Conference, to be held right here in OUR city, New Orleans. There is no better time to be a part of HRMA.
          The 2008 board is keenly aware that we have big shoes to fill! But, I love being on a winning team. That is why I continue my commitment to this chapter, and with your renewed membership, we will attain the goals and mission of HRMA. I am excited about the dedication of our many volunteer leaders, the growth and success of 2007 upon which we will continue to build, and look forward to advancing the profession, and serving the professional in 2008.
